What’s up? I’m Emily! A (super hip, super chill) 24-year-old who is a little too in love with running, hip-hop and basketball. I was born and raised in Maryland, but moved to Chicago in August 2008 and have been there ever since! Fear not, a little bit of my heart will always be part-crab.
Growing up, I was not athletic. At all. Despite that fact, I played basketball for 4 years and danced for 5 years, which is about as active as I would get. In 2006, my dad passed away of a heart attack. I learned later that year I was pre-disposed to diabetes and needed to get my health into check ASAP. Weight loss was slow and really happened in 2008 when I moved to Chicago for college. Since then, I’ve lost 67lbs (at my lowest weight).
In 2011, I saw some friends on Facebook talking about running the Hot Chocolate 5K and next thing I knew, I was signed up! To be 100% honest, it was the post-race chocolate party that made me pull the trigger. Whatever works, right? From 2011-2013 I did a couple more races, but in 2014 I became a running nut. I completed 2 5k’s, 1 8k, 1 10k, 1 half-marathon and 1 full marathon. HOW UNREAL!
and now…. here I am. You, dear reader, are now lucky enough to watch me chronicle my life in training, cross-training, feelings and (probably) food. Thank me later, but until then, thank YOU for stopping by!
